Workshop coordinator: Dr Marialena Trivella
Senior Statistician (Systematic Review Methodology)
Centre for Statistics in Medicine
University of Oxford
Dr Marialena Trivella is Cochrane author, editor, and trainer, has previously worked as a Cochrane training co-ordinator, and has contributed to the teaching material and online modules used by Cochrane. She is regularly teaching in Cochrane courses in the UK and abroad. She is a senior statistician and methodologist at the University of Oxford, a statistical editor for the Cochrane Library, and a member of the Cochrane Prognostic Reviews Implementation team.
A systematic review collates all empirical evidence from previously published studies that fits pre-specified eligibility criteria in order to answer a specific research question. The key characteristics of a systematic review are: i) the explicit reproducible methodology, ii) the systematic search of all the available evidence, iii) the assessment and validity of the findings of the included studies, and, iv) the systematic synthesis and presentation of results.
Systematic reviews are at the top of the evidence pyramid and Cochrane systematic reviews in particular are considered the gold standard of evidence, especially in health-related topics, and are widely used for making decisions in health care.
The workshop, through lectures and practicals, will be covering elements of systematic reviews of interventions, such as: how to use PICO for a good research question, design of a protocol, basics of searching for studies and study eligibility, assessing risk of bias, basics of meta-analysis, and methodological and statistical considerations in systematic reviews.
No previous experience in systematic reviews is required.
Σε όλους τους συμμετέχοντες θα δοθεί πιστοποιητικό από το Cochrane.
